binkw32.dll keeps crashing my lotro

Postby mooseman » Mon Feb 09, 2009 3:45 pm

At the end of the intro quest, with Amdir, when you have to talk to Celadine Brandybuck to finish the first part and take Amdir to Archet, when I click "finish quest" LOTRO crashes.

I re-installed.
I changed to Windows classic theme.
The app crash is actually binkw32.dll.

I have the most recent drivers for my nvidia 8600m gs

This could be the end of my first and only mmo quest. Sigh :?

So it's crashing as its trying to play a cut-scene. You could go rename all the cut-scene files, wherever those might be, they usually have an extension of .bik then maybe it won't find them and won't try to play them.

I renamed a few likely looking .bik files and that enabled me to get past the end of jailbreak quest crash.

Also, I looked in the forums, and googled but didn't see any actual solutions, just a bunch of random suggestions to try, and no one saying that they had solved the problem.

In any case, the problem does not occur anymore.

Also, the trial does not do dx10, whereas the full 10GB game does play in dx10. Once I got the full game downloaded, the next time I launched, it asked me if I wanted to run in DX10.

Still, thanks for the tip on the .bik files! :drinkers:
