Don't knock the classics! Although, I'll grant you , HK:IA 1 and 3 were better by far.

DotA on mac?

I am on a quest to increase my games library on my macpro. I see that WC3 and Frozen Throne have been released for mac. Does anyone know if dota works on mac, and what I would need to play?

DotA does work on Macs. You'll need Warcraft III and Frozen Throne, typically sold cheap as a bundle, then simply download DotA and go!

Fun game last night, by the by. Leshrac is up there with Tinker and Axe when it comes to DotA giggles.

You might have difficulties since you have a Mac Pro (it is a PPC install). I tried to install Warcraft III on my Intel Macbook, but the installer won't even run. Apparently some people have gotten it to work, but I have not been so lucky.

Theoretically, Rosetta (Apple's PPC emulator for Intel Macs) should be able to run the game, but something isn't working for me.

I did some testing and found out that I somehow broke Rosetta on my laptop. So, I reinstalled OS X and now Warcraft III is working fine. I didn't have to do anything special to get it working. It actually runs pretty well despite my integrated graphics and the emulation so it should run very well on your machine.

Edit: This is interesting, the Mac version of Warcraft III supports widescreen 16:10 resolutions natively yet on the PC I only have 4:3 resolutions to choose from (despite a widescreen monitor). I wonder why there is no Windows support for that.

Coke - so it looks like you just had a bad rosetta installation and I should give it a go then.

Stonking - ironically I apparently can't play your funny video on my mac with firefox.

Poking around with Banlist I noticed Florp and I both share bans. These from unHOLYdoNUTS, who is actually credited on the loading screen of 6.40 for something or other, I can only presume were Florp and I making fun of each other:

pub basher in DotA 6.30b -AR US/CA Banlist on Lordaeron (04/16/2006)
pub basher in DotA 6.30b -AR US/CA Banlist on Lordaeron (04/16/2006)

And these from tug187, well :(

slut playing dota.. gotta be ugly

The second ban was me, if you hadn't guessed.

Hahaha!!

I can't claim credit for the ugly noob comment! I've merged my banlist with those of friends!

I would have used more frivolous language!

Strange you bring this up Velveteen, I was poking around on banlist.nl and used the tools feature to check out my bans out of interest.

I was banned by the same guy, as well as a couple others in the same game (presumably friends). I just checked the date, and it was the same day as your bans... I'm gonna see if I still have that replay sitting around...

EDIT: I could find no replay. In his ban of me, he notes that I went '0-1 tide.' I think I remember that I had a poor early game as tidehunter, and encountered one of those oh so rare times I lag out.
