God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

for the newest inductees into this incredibley stressless, yet satisfying sub-genre of WC3, Sancho and Zazi, i bump this thread for you :)

there a million sub sub genres of TD too, you can have a hero you lvl as you build towers, they can be in a set pattern, or in a vast map, it's just.. MIND BOGGLING :S

May I recommend Forbidden Elements Tower Wars for anyone interested in this kind of game. It's been a while since I've seen someone use the wide veriety of editor features available this well, with costom weapon and armor types and good smooth scripting.

I picked up WCIII at Half-Price Books today for a mere $14.95. The box is slightly creased and the manual smells like cigarettes so I'm hoping the key won't be in use.

Now I must play this TD thing of which you all constantly babble. If one of you tells me I need an expansion I'll be extremely cranky!

*EDIT* never mind, found I need the expansion for most of the recent maps, me hates expansions, curses!

well, a few of us are pretty rabid TD players, and we all play NON expansion maps. just go onto battlenet, and look for custom games that have TD type maps, connect and download, VOILA :)

I always miss your IRC post for TD, but if your on Teamspeak then I could find ya. And you could teach me this interesting gametype over voice. :)

we're always on IRC asking for TD players :) it's really a very simple game. the only problem is, every map has different rules :S

but the BASICs are this:

1) monsters come in waves through a maze
2) you build different types of towers to kill them
3) if they make it past you, they take away a limited number of LIVES
4) when your lives are up, you lose
5) if you survive all waves, you win!

now how it differs is multiple, here are a few:
-ability to buy heroes to help
-ability to build towers IN the path of the monsters (and make mazes with the towers to maximize monster exposure to fire) or only allowed to build on the side
-races that lock you into a type of tower
-pooled or individual lives (the latter is usually called survivor)
-theme (simpson's, matrix, whatever (it's only in how they name things, the models are still wc3))
-what sorta towers there are, what damage they do
-if you can upgrade a tower or if you ahve to build a completely new more powerful one

There's a secret level in The Frozen Throne campaign that is a Turret D level. It's very much fun to play :)

I wasn't aware anyone plays WC3... does anyone play the hero maps (e.g. DOTA)?

I gave Quake's TD to a friend of mine and his uber geek buddy and they took it over last weekend and beat it. Apparently it just stops sending monsters around level 68 or so. I'm still losing consistently around level 30-32 or so.
