Terry Gilliam has attempted twice to adapt Alan Moore's Watchmen comics into a film. Both attempts (in 1989 and 1996, respectively) were unsuccessful.

Gilliam, who was a Python member and made Brazil and Time Bandits would seem like a natural for this movie. Too bad he couldn't pull it off.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

IMHO, Good movie but not great movie:

- Niteowl as a porn star.
- Previous knowledge of story does allow to pick up on various nods.
- Action in fights cool but gore is over done.
- Ending not my cup o'tea, like graphic novel approach better.
Check it out! I finally figured out where to make a avatar that will fit on the forums! http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/

Finally saw this (for the first time) on my friends crazy BluRay setup and I must say, I liked it! It felt very much like watching The Lord of the Rings films: some of the changes made sense and were acceptable in the context of translating book to film; some of the changes made no sense at all, especially in terms of dialogue; and some seemed to exist solely to satiate Zach Snyder's bloodlust.

The additional graphic violence and sex, I thought, was forgivable because overall it was a fantastic work and one that adhered to the feel of the book. It was visually stunning and the acting was pretty good (though Comedian and Rorschach stole the show). Manhattan and Silk Spectre were so-so, in terms of acting and character development, but I thought Silk Spectre 1 was horrible. Seeing the Comedian brought to life made me realize he is my favorite character of the book.

All in all pretty awesome and, again, very much like LotR: I think it was as good a job as could be done, in spite of its flaws (even the glaring ones).

Having read the graphic novel > 10 years ago, and not remembering a thing, I watched this with my wife. My wife thought some of the violence was a bit over the top, but she was glued to it and mentioned several times that this was a "fantastic film." I thought it was extremely good myself and was glued to the screen for all three hours. Not better than LOR, but one of the best films I've seen since.
