Just gave it a shot. Buck shot that is. What a blast!

Heh, was especially fun with McRiot, Acolyte, and The Demolition (iirc).

Well, good news folks, if this thing can run on my PoS laptop, I am pretty sure just about anyone is good for it. Hope to buy it before the week is out, so I can get the $5 off.

Edit: Oh, and I recall one moment especially was fun, considering I was playing Bill "Wolvie, take your pills!"

PCgameshardware.com has some comparison photos of graphics settings. You know...High vs. Low...stoned vs. sober....

The Deliverator was your gracious zombie-killing escort.

Remember! The Deliverator will save you from the zombie apocalypse in 30 minutes or less or you get your money back. If you are alive that is.

Was that you Coke? If it was, you were bad ass.

Oh and after playing a bit more, one of the features of the game stood out huge for me: Take A Break
I had to go run over to save my daughter from tipping a vase over on her head and in the mean time, this handy new way to AFK helped BIG TIME. Honestly, I feel like this is what has always been missing in multiplayer games, to know that I can let the AI take over so my fellow gamers don't go down a man and then how easy it is to get back into the game.

First, yes that's Coke, second that should be your first clue. 'Look, he killed everything!'

As for that feature, sounds like it encourages slacking off and not being dedicated. Do you really think the AI is a sufficent replacement? Is it just as good at keeping your team alive as you are? You complete sissy, you lillie livered waste of bandwidth....you maggot!

Or maybe I shouldn't have all the soldier taunts spliced in to a single song and play it all the time....

Top 3 things not to do with stray shotgun pellets:

3. Incapacitate someone you are trying to "help"

2. Trigger the car alarm (doh!)

1. Set Darwin on fire by hitting a gas can (although we discovered the game did track this and demerit me with a TK)

Nice playing with everyone BTW.

I am so glad to be a pc gamer and part of a great community like OldF.

Yesterday I was hanging out at my brother's apartment, checking out Fallout 3 and Mirrors Edge on his 360 when I decided to try out L4D online. I gave it one game and then remembered why I never bought an X-Box. The first game, first phase of the first game mind you, Louis kills Zoey for no reason. The rest of the team spends about 5 minutes on the roof for no reason while I'm trying to hack through the apartments. Finally Francis decides to come shoot zombies with me and, at the first rush, we get overwhelmed while the other morons are still on the roof.

Somehow I'd forgotten since my Halo 2 days that XBLive is full of wanking losers who can't go two seconds with seeing something explode or profaning (see Zero Punctuation).

One thing I love...it loads about 5x faster than TF2.

That screenshot is pretty funny, McRiot.

I am on the fence about this game.

Okay, it has been really fun to play, but when I look at what is really going on, every 'zombie' crowd rush is the same. There are only 6 different types of infected(4 will be playable), and they are always the same. There are only four survivor characters. I read more about the game on Steam forums and I don't see any mentions of an in-game upgrade path, although some additional weapons will be released later. I suppose they will follow the path of TF2 and those people who devote themselves to achievements will get limited unlocks.

You know, it just doesn't seem like a whole game to me. I don't think it's a $50 game, more of a $19 game. It's a mod, not a whole game.

I think that the novelty will wear off pretty quickly, 'Oh, a hunter. Ho hum.'

I may be wrong...I hope I am.

What do you fogies think?

My hopes and dreams is that VS. mode will bring in all sorts of replay value to the game and that at some point additional zombies will be added to the game to diversify it that much more, for the moment the guns available are fine honestly between the bullets, fire and explosions they should focus on making the zombies more unpredictable (harder difficulty setting..) and add more types of specialty zombies. This is one of the best co-op mission based games I've played since Rainbow Six Vegas and all that jazz. I'm counting on the player vs player to pick up my interest for replay value after I exhaust the 20 something maps with my thirty different friends :). The big reason I've been able to play the demo so much is because the experience changes everytime I go in with a different group of friends, I like that a lot.

The latest 1up Show has some great spoiler stuff for the other 'movies' as well as play as the Infected. It's gotten me even more pumped up!

To speak to Moosy's concerns, this game seems to be a lot like TF2 or any other game (chess, anyone?) where all the pieces are put in place and there's an astronomical number of ways to play them. Just seeing some of the Infected play video (yes, I peeked) shows me that there will have to be a lot of thought and strategy put into it, even moreso that playing as a Survivor. I keep coming back to this parallel but it's a lot like NS: if you get tired of playing as a ho-hum, run of the mill Marine you can just switch teams for a wholly different style of play. Each class of Infected has it's role, just as the Kharaa do except in L4D those roles are part of controlling a massive horde of zombies as well as messing with other player-characters.

One of the 1up fanboys made a good point about Valve: people were bitching at first about there only being 6 or so maps for TF2 at launch but they're all still being played. People are still playing de_dust how many years later? Valve know what they are doing and I think, in addition to the apparently very well done AI 'director, the movies we do have plus the prospect of additional content that we knew will be released within the next 6-8 months will keep us entertained. Also bear in mind the amount of polish this game has received: that's what makes Valve games worth playing. I would be very surprised if anyone did not feel they at least got their $50 worth. Zombie Panic! is a mod, Left4Dead is its own game.

While I also wish this game was a smaller price than the current $45-50 USD because I am well, cheap from necessity because my expendable income is not exactly what anyone would call high - IMHO novelty is what this game is all about. Man, the number of times I have faced off against zombies in this or that game or mod, and they honestly don't even come close to as fun as this. It reminds me in some ways of some co-op gameplay I enjoy on a gamecube game I have: 007 Everything or Nothing only the enemies don't shoot back so you don't need cover and there aren't really scripted sequences and enemy locations that can be memorized.

Whether or not this game is a flash in the pan will probably largely depend on new downloadable content, whether that be in the form of community mods or Valve content. Kinda like TF2 to be honest. Everything from new weapons, to new enviroments, to new infected horrors. Hmm, kinda like NS1 changed over its iterations too: new maps, new weapons, and tweaks to the life forms. That's from a player's perspective, from Valve's I wonder just how they make money from this, y'know, besides customer loyalty that is the envy of other developers, especially EA sub-studios who in all likely hood curse the anti-customer decisions of their corporate distribution masters.

Edit: Which is kinda funny when I think about it, if I am not mistaken, if you buy a retail/boxed copy of L4D, I think EA does that for Valve.
