Warhammer: Invasion

Postby clamatius » Fri Feb 12, 2010 8:50 pm

It's not a computer game. It's a card game. And you should be playing it, 'cos it's awesome.

While it has a CCG-like model with deckbuilding and the like, it's great out of the box. And there are no boosters to buy because there's no random card distribution - you know what you get, each card set is fixed.

If you like/liked Magic but aren't playing because it's too expensive (or are playing) then you will love this game.

Looks pretty cool and cheaper than TT Warhammer (something I've always wanted to try). I played Magic when I was a kid but that was because I had friends who did the same. All of my friends are too cool for anything but console games and the ccg bridge is one that will take guts for me to cross as it will mean stepping into the in-person nerd world over at the Hobby Lobby where sweaty, overweight geeks in clothes left unclean by their moms sit around felt-covered tables meant to look like the Pelennor, shoving expensive plastic Space Marines at each other.

I'd rather keep my geekdom hidden shrewdly behind a forum avatar and clever signature verbage.

Sorry to troll...can you play that game online? :P

Yeah, but only with the "automated table" type systems. Try LackeyCCG or Octgn2 - there are WH:I plugins for both.

I thought TT Warhammer was kinda cool but (a) I can't paint and (b) saying it is a massive time and money sink is a giant underexaggeration. WH:I has neither of those problems.

heheh
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

Clearly you have poor taste in friends. ;)

Start them on a gateway drug like Settlers of Catan and they'll be snorting freshly opened CCG boosters before you know it. :P

I like that! My wife actually brought up Catan the other day. I've heard you louts talking about it for years so I reckon it's about time.

Oh yeah, speaking of boardgames, since you're a card-carrying Tolkien nerd, you may well like Lord of the Rings:

It's one of my wife's favourite games. Cooperative, not competitive. She wrote an essay on it for the 100 Best Hobby Games book:

Yeah, played a few games with Izzy. It's like all the cool things about Magic without all the problems. Plus, Warhammer!
