TF2 video editing!

So now TF2 has a built in movie maker thingamabob. You can edit and then upload to youtube from within the game. It's really slick, because the server is actually recording and if you think "gee, that was a good run" hit F6 before you respawn and the server sends you a copy. Kind of makes it a bit simpler, like the new screenshot tool too. It seems that once you respawn though, you only have the option of recording that life. Also note that depending on your connection, or the servers connection, it might induce some lag on you.

Oh, and when I say you can edit, it's pretty basic, but you can change camera angles and stuff real easy. It's a nice step up from the old system.

Yeah, that looks super awesome, I'm worried about how much lag that'll put on the servers though, and if most server owners will just disable it by default.
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

It's added some lag to some servers but I think as the novelty wears off, there will be less server lag as not every single user and their dog is recording every death. Since it uses http downloads, like what extra models, sounds, sprays and most crap you download off a server use anyway, it shouldn't be any worse than what servers upload already as it's outside of the game connection. The data it sends seems to be a compressed dem file with no extra text and no voice chat too and it only sends the pertinent bits where you are alive.
