A little late don't you think.

From the sound of the podcast its not going to set them back at all and in reality it moved them forward... lets hope it keeps that way.

NS2 isn't something I'm really waiting on. If it appears at some point that's great but for now, meh ;)

*shrug* From the sounds of things, they were almost their own engine trying to RTS+FPS the way they wanted in Source anyways and it took them all of a week or two to test out if it was viable.

They probably learned a bunch of stuff from their time with Source anyways, in addition to everything Max has brought with him from past game development work.

I'm not worried, and if they say things are going smoother, then the proof will be in the pudding or lack there of.

way way back when the idea of NS2 came about on the forums didn't charlie say they were writing their own engine for it anyways? They just seem to have reverted back to the original plan.

Surprising, I guess. I am a bit concerned with them having to make their own tools though. Wait and see.

Good to know there is progress though.

Yeah, if they can make a change on the fly like that...they must not have been much past "lets doodle on storyboards and think of cool concepts" stage. That tells me that it will be a loooonnnngggg time before we see NS2.

That's exactly the lines I was thinking along ever since I first saw that Lua Debugger last year. Helpful to them, but seemingly kind of off-tangent to the goal.

I guess it isn't so bad though. I read on the forums that Max is doing this technology stuff while Charlie is working on the gameplay stuff (putting Max's stuff to work.)

Also: My final comp sci project involved a lot of (in hindsight) useless framework development resulting in little to no finished product. Oh, but if we only had a couple more months... D'oh!

QFT
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

So if the Fogies get a NS2 server, and it doesn't have bunny hopping on it would you mod? I know Darwin was pretty strict to keep a vanilla server. I guess it would really depend on how the game play movement is handle in the end.

I would be shocked if we would add a game altering plug-in into a game. Bet on vanilla.

Yeah we're so vanilla, let the game live or die on its own merits.

Darwin would approve ;)

Well, back in the 1.04 days we had a few plugins. Mostly gameplay enhancing/fixing variety. I'd say the majority of the stuff we had usually ended up becoming part of the game anyway! (The 1.05 package of plugins for 1.04 had some 2.0 "features", and later example would be the hive "ff" on pj) We've always had server management plugins too (bot seeding, voting, autobalancer etc.) so we aren't bone stock all the time.
