Alright after working on it for most of easter monday i'm ready for my next release you can download it here: http://sven.razenet.com/fishtank/ns_fishtank02_v1.zip

current known problems:
-map is only playable for one round then it must be reloaded other wise the weldables will not function as they do not reset properly, this is nothing i've done apparently entities not reseting on round two is a know issue and being fixed in 1.1 I will however make some alternative work arounds in the versions to come. For now play it once and if you wish to play again changelevel back to it for a full reload.

-I have not yet put up lighting RAD is not been compiled, it's should be in the next version however, for now full map lighting

-latency, basicaly this will just take time it should get better as I continue to make rooms smaller and add more doors.

Changes:
-I've sectioned textures into smaller pieces to allow for lighting this time
-added an elevator lift in the rdyroom leading to a new spectating room eventually intend to move the join_spectator entity up to that room.
-new vents and weldables for both sides
-more doors
-more secrets
-more coming soon to a theatre near you!

Hehe, sounds good man! Would you do me a favour and e-mail (address is in my profile) me an rmf version of your map? Or give me a link to your server where I can DL it? I'd be interested in seeing behind the scenes and taking advantage of what you've learned in the last couple of weeks. I can do the same for you with mine, but I'd have to e-mail it (about 1.6 megs).

I know mcriot has his own webspace, but if you want, they can be hosted here, on the forum.

I can toss it under some sort of password or authorisation, if required, so that either only clan members can access it, if that's a concern.

well it's pretty obvious fishtank is mine and this topic confirms it so I really don't mind posting a link to the rmf, it's not like it's an official map.

all my work is being stored at http://sven.razenet.com/fishtank including rmf files 02_v1 is the current version i'm on not sure if i uploaded my latest yet though, i'll be sure to have it their soon. ALSO, hawk if you wish it I can give you ftp access to my server so you can have your own webspace and upload at will.

hey, thanks mcRiot. I'll take you up on that. Then everyone can get my latest build as I do them, even if it hasn't hit OM yet. No worries about what belongs to who. We're both learning how a lot of how this stuff works, and I think we could both get better at it faster if we compare notes. Plus those more experienced than us can grab them and tell us how we could do things better!

Also, I saw your post in the mapping forum about the problem with weldables resetting. Did you find a workaround, or is it hopeless until 1.1?

it would be nice to have links to both maps from this forum, so ppl don't ahve to go hunting around looking for them :)

hein, i was going to get around to hacking the board to include the links, but am afraid of altering the wrong .tpl file.

Owl, Matt finally got me to understand how to post stuff to his site. You can get my new maps at http://sven.razenet.com/pyramid/ when they're ready. Go into the map+spr directory to get the current set.

I'm still on beta05 for now.

well I finally accomplished something I'm happy about, my ready room ownz :) I've scraped most the level as the lights were giving me a hela of a hard time. I've yet again started a new fishtank rmf file and moved the RR to this new file, added the lightining and man it looks good :). I may yet salvage more of my fishtank map in pieces but I'll be rethinking my level through. I'm going to make a huge effort to make my map look as good as hawks pyramid =P his first map makes my first map look like poo. I'll be working on my level the next few days and through the weekend hopefully pump out a new and improved ns_fishtank03_v1 :P

my rdy room r0xerz with lightining, lots of mooz for this one :)

  :D

Damn that made me laugh. Especially since I think the looks of my map suck :P .

The purpose of each map is totally different, so you shouldn't be comparing them man... yours makes me think mines too linear, and it takes a lot of willpower to keep at it, instead of giving up on it from my lack of imagination.

newest and latest version of fishtank should be finished by the end of this week if not sooner 90% of it's been revised and the layout is 100% complete. I need to work on replacing the light entities with texture lighting I'll probably read a tutorial on lighting so I get it right the first time :P. Other then that I've started texturing the rooms I need to fix up a few sloped hallways, adjust the comms view slightly and add some decorations to the rooms for a bit more uniquness. I'll probably leave some of that till the next version though just so I can see how the level plays out.

That's it, I'm giving up on this for now, the layout is done, I've been able to compile it with a certain amount of lights but when ever I try to light up more areas every single freakin time i get: Warning: Too many direct light styles on a face(?,?,?) and most the time hlrad errors and the lights don't render. I've tried so many diffrent ways to fix this, I give up I'll probably try starting a new map after 1.1 is released in the meantime you can download my source from: http://sven.razenet.com/fishtank/ns_fishtank05_v2 feel free to tear it apart and modify it in anyway you see fit enjoy

PS. I was using the zoners compiling tools to compile suggested to me by sputgop I stoped using the hammers tools for compiling hence you can download my last compile log.

THE END

I can't, it won't compile properly that's why I just put on the source files, maybe someohter mapper will come along and feel like making it work and light her up.

I want to thank SputGop for making this possiable.

http://sven.razenet.com/fishtank/ns_fishtank05_v2.zip (unzip into your NS directory and your all done)

or download files seperatly:
http://sven.razenet.com/fishtank/ns_fishtank05_v2.bsp (maps directory)
http://sven.razenet.com/fishtank/wall_tech.wad (this file goes into your main ns directory)
http://sven.razenet.com/fishtank/ns_fishtank05_v2.spr (minimap goes to your sprites/minimaps directory)

THE MOST PLAYABLE VERSION YET!

it's still not finished and their are still yet a handfull of bugs, but it works!
when I have a minimap available I will get it linked here too, hopefully soon.

known bugs/issues:
- upgrade bug at marine start
- lighting needs to be adjusted for less headaches
- more stairs/or ramps (gorge friendly)
- more lights in areas
- more obstacles/decorations
- glass needs to be redone and retextured
- readyroom needs to be impossiable to build in
- double res room needs to have something to keep chambers from falling through grate
- fade blinking into ready room needs to be readjusted
- commander being able to use the button to open the large marine door needs to be fixed
