The photoshop hack is right! A new version is upon us!

Hooray!

Changelog:
Version: "D3"
  • LET THERE BE LIGHT! More lights and an overall brightness increase (-scale 1.5) makes seeing critters easier.
  • Fixed (I hope?) the atrium fps stutter experienced by some. (Smaller ambient mp3 to decode might have fixed it.)
  • Moved the alien side lightswitch to the area that is affected by the switch (so people don't weld it and say "what did that do?")
  • Reworked particle systems (inotherwords actually spent a bit of time figuring them out), made some custom sprites.
  • Reworked spawn positions for aliens. Closer to cover, better spread and lower to ground. Marine spawns are mostly just closer to the ground now.
  • Redid custom textures, created some new ones.
  • Peeled the skin off the wall in the little pit room to expose the fleshy rocks beneath it.
  • Made vent system a bit more efficient to use. (couple of45 degree corners instead of 90, more passing room, easier to find as well.)
  • Bit more cover in the hive, pulled the balcony window backwards so as to give less of a view out over the hive.
  • Stupid invisible stuck spots should be gone now. Mostly. (Fingers crossed...)
  • More detail all around. Optimizations. Continued my quest to de-blandify some areas.

Hawtponce!
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

I've released two maps already... I've since bought asbestos underwear in bulk...

Sadly though, my attempts to fix the problem last night haven't seen much progress. I got rid of the invisible wall, but now there is a wall that's supposed to be there... that isn't solid... and yeah, I'm not releasing a map with space skulks again. XD

I have classes all day, and by the time I get home, I'm gonna want to be playing at the fogey night.

And I'm also out of town this weekend, so the map release is gonna be sometime next week. Next weekend at the latest!

Well, walls that are supposed to be solid are solid and places that should have no walls, no longer have walls.

Oddly enough, I switched to a compile setting that in my last map, co_nadir, caused the same kinds of problems I've had in this map.

(Specifically, for those in the know, I went back to using the precise setting in CSG as opposed to normalized.)

At any rate, I just need to tweak a couple of details, and then zip it all together. Barring any unforeseen problems of course.

I squinted. I stuck my nose up to the screen. I tried enlarging using photohax. I couldn't read the computer panels on your map, or in the RR.

Plz make the text brighter/more distinct from the static background ;x I wanna read the phrase :<

I can read it all just fine...

The goofy comments under the warning and critical emergency signs (Don't just sit there, do something about it! and Run for the hills!) might be hard to pick out... but everything else seems clear to me...

Aughhh.... the .psd originals of those textures are lost too... I made those textures like, a coons age ago... (Definately can't fix it for this version... but if nobody can read them... that's a priority for the next version then...)

It took some squinting, but I read and chuckled at them.

i'll have this installed on the PJ, if we're still planning on meeting there for wednesday fogie+reservists night....

-f!

EDIT: i've also got it setup on the fast sv_downloadurl, for clients who don't have a chance to download the map prior to connecting, they should be able to receive the map from the server in a matter of seconds as opposed to a matter of minutes...

I loaded up this map and walked around a bunch, both rine and alien, and I have to say it's an excellent map, aside from some small lighting weirdness, but it doesn't affect gameplay.
