Slowly but surely

Might have our own skin here yet...

Last couple nights I've been familiarizing myself with the css and html of the phpbb3 skin. Probably going to base it off of the subsilver2 style (since I have a personal distaste for prosilver). However, when I figure this one out, I'll port some of the graphics over to the other styles.

I'm also familiarizing myself with Paint.net at the same time. I like it better than the GIMP so far (just because the GIMP's user interface drove me insane) but it sure lacks a lot of the features I've grown accustomed to with photoshop. (But they've incorporated some ideas, like tabs, that photoshop needs.)

TALLY HO!

hey BigD,that's pretty sweet. I'd shrink the fogey with the HMG down to a liiiiittle itty bitty old person an put him in the foreground, possibly shaking his fist at the TF2 fellows. Are you going to fogey-tize the TF2 guys?

Yeah, I've been trying to think how (and who) to do that with. A scout with a walker came to mind, but making it recognizable as an old scout would be tough. (And any one with skills of an arteest, please lend me a hand here! I don't draw people very good...)

I think that bringing the "fogey of old" to the foreground is a good idea too. What I'll probably do is move the text to the left a little bit, then put him in front of that too so his foot is just kicking the F. I started out with the text in the background where he is, but it was too hard too read so when I moved it forward I used him as fill.

Something else to think about, is possibly JUST having the TF2 weapons, an just the Old Man. And put the weapons around him. Probably put the HMG leaning against the back of the chair (since we don't play NS a whole lot anymore), and maybe have Sasha on his lap, and the flamethrower, and say, the rocket-launcher nearby?

I really like that idea owl, might actually be easier to make too. Sasha is pretty ubiquitous isn't it?

Oh, and I already have plans for our oddball arangement of inside jokes...

Was thinking they'd make good icons here and there.

Take for example the "new posts" icons.
Image = 1 lonely pie
Image = 1 steaming hot pie
Image = a stack of pies!
Image = a squished stack of pies!

Edit: The trick will be to keep things within size limits. Will post as I make progress.

I basically re-created the old geezer. Not terribly exact, but pretty close. I also remade him larger so that we can muck about with it. Here's the very rough .PDN file, just so nobody has to recreate him again. (Pretty rough, but close enough.)

Whipped up some more prototypes.

First, old guy by himself...

Or maybe compact it a bit?

I'm sort of partial to this one:

My only issue with three is that the weapons aren't too clear. Can you put the gamma up a bit and make them a tad oversized?
