Server Info and Rules

Thanks for playing on our server. The Old Fogies are happy to provide a friendly environment to play games with people who have mature attitudes.

Geriatric Ward is hosted in Seattle, Washington State on InterNAP through

You can connect to it with the following NS2 console command: connect

You can add it to your steam server list if you add it with port 27016. NS2 uses both 27015 and 27016, but the second seems to work for steam servers while the first does not.

The player limit is 16 with a further 3 slots available to players who hold a reserved slot. If you would like a reserved slot, head on over to our Induction forum to apply.

The server is paid for by a shadowy consortium of Fogeys.

We are running Shine mod for admin tools. The following commands can be typed in chat:

!rtv - This stands for "Rock the Vote" and will initiate a map vote. *Status: Enabled
!timeleft - Shows how much time is left before the server will start a map-vote at the end of a round. *Status: Enabled
!random - Initiates vote to random teams from the Ready Room *Status: Enabled
!surrender - Initiates a side-specific vote for your team to end the round. Use this to concede after the 2 minute mark, as default concede doesn't work till the 10 minute mark. *Status: enabled
!stuck - Teleports you to a nearby spot after a short delay. Used to dislodge yourself from somewhere you cannot get out of. *Status: Enabled
!acceptmotd - Hides the MOTD and rules messages on join and map load. Saved and persistent per-player.

Your m key will open various shine-related commands available to you in a gui.

First off, if you have any questions about these rules, register and post! If you want to keep it private, send a message to any active OldF member.

Not all admins enforce all rules equally, you however are responsible for following the strictest interpretation any admin might elect to take that day. It's just safer that way.

- Respect everyone, always
- Good sportsmanship and a gentleman's spirit must be preserved throughout.
- Do not cheat, rage, exploit, team stack, grief or spam voicecomm.
- No hurtful, racist or bigotted language and no excessive swearing. This includes slurring "gay" and the like.

Quick guide to what constitutes excessive swearing:

- Angry slurs directed at other players:
"Fuck you NSPlayer you motherfucker!" KICKED

- Distasteful comments unfit for tea with the Queen:
"I bathe in a barrel full of disembodied horse cocks!" KICKED

- Needlessly injecting curses into everything you say:
"Get your bitch-ass to nanogrid, shit-for-brains! NSPlayer you fucker, build my goddamn phasegate!" KICKED

- Hate speech that despite wide use is still hate speech:
"Here comes the Onos, prepare your anus faggots!" KICKED

Rule clarifications

- No hackusations while on the server. If you are suspicious of someone, please raise the issue with a Fogey. Be sure to catch their Steam ID by entering "sh_status" into the NS2 console, without quotes.
- Do not pretend to be an admin.
- No griefing. See below.

Griefing will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Harrassing other players. Especially because of their age, gender and the like. Yes, there are female players. Yes, there are younger players. No need to comment on this.
- Blocking hallways or vents with your character for long periods.
- Spamming votes for mapchange, surrender, or commander ejection.

A wise Florp once said "If you are doing something that can potentially make a lot of people needlessly irritated, please stop. It's just good manners."

Odds and ends

- We understand that many players face high pings due to their locations and connections, but we ask that your rates and connection be somewhat stable. A player who moves around in a slide show with a ping that might flux as much as 1000% in a period of seconds is of massive annoyance to both players and spectators.
- If the server is full, please do not sit around idly in the ready room or spectate as you are taking a slot that could be used by someone who will actually play.

Breaking any of these rules can, and quite probably will, get you kicked or banned.

Cleaning up misconceptions!

- Clanstacking is allowed so long as the teams work out to be even skill-wise.

If banned...

Register here and boogy on down to our Unban Requests forum. We will consider removing any ban on request after four months. If you are uncertain of when you were banned feel free to post there asking.
