Updated Freespace 2 Open

I think I can get the FRED2 Editor (Fresspace 2 Mission Editor) going again, have not tried multiplayer from Freespace 2 at Gog.com (or using FS2 Open) though... but if I can get both working correctly using the latest versions of each, could be some fun space combat times....

This is only at 480p, imagine if it was recorded with at least 720p

Startrek Mod (The Mod/Game uses TRackIR, this is why he is able to look around as he pilots)

Holy shit, freespace? The game with the huge alien ships with massive lasers? Daaayum. Old school.

Watching the videos reminds me of Babylon 5.

Speaking of Babylon 5 series, the mod team over at the link above made a campaign for it, fully complete singleplayer campaign...

also... remember galatica Series? Cylons...

These developers should really start a kick starter for Freespace 3, all of them, including the mods teams put so much hard work into the community FS2 Open engine and everything else. They need to do a kickstarter for FS3 with all the the FS2 Open developers.

That BSG mod is pertty fantastic. Campaign, voice acting, it's got everything. Even Newtonian physics where you thrust one way and pivot the other. It's pretty damn rad.
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

Thanks for the suggestion Nite, I have yet to try that one out. Going to make a post in Hard-Light Forums thanking the developers of FS2 Open and the modding developers. Recommend that if anyone else have enjoyed the mods do the same on the forums, its a pretty lonely world for developers who has been indie for more than 10 years working on a engine bringing it up to newer tech (including shader 2 tech for current GPUs). I've got the FRED2_Open working, made a test mission for a mod and successfully launched the mission. Pretty cool that all the text your type is spoken by a virtual voice. Hell name any game nowadays where you can create a mission and the game engine will speak verbally the mission Breifing/ending and ingame with good to perfect clarity.

I'll see if the BFG mod team needs help for mission designers, but in my free time I'll try to make some single co-op missions for fun. Inferno mods looks cool. I think in the original FS2 Campaign you can actually use newtonian physics too, there is a option for absolute and relative ship controls, in FS2 Open. I was chasing a shivan in one of the beginning missions, hard as hell to get a shot on, took me about 15-20 to get enough shots on his fighter to kill him. That was a really challenging and part of FS2 I missed so much, but now played in FS2 Open.
