Wow, I remember alpha testing that. Was quite a pain, and we didn't beat him.

Lol, I finally got one character all the way through Eye of the North. That was after about an 8 month hiatus from GW (the new baby was sucking up all my time).

After doing about 4 full NF playthroughs when I was still in QA, I couldn't do one in my spare time ;P

I keep thinking of trying GW. Even though I've not really got the time for another MMO, it seems like that would be okay with GW since it's not pay-to-play. One of the things I look for in these types of games are nice environments and it seems to have those.

If I pick this up do I have to download all the expansions or can I just get 'Game of the Year Edition' or something and be content?

Any free trial opportunities around, McRiot?

You only really need all the expansions if you want to be competitive in PvP. If you're just PvEing, just 1 is fine. People generally seem to think that Nightfall is the one to get, followed by Prophecies, with Factions in last place. Each one is ~$20, the whole trilogy is ~$50.

And yeah, there are free trials: http://www.guildwars.com/freetrial/

Yeah, I'm with Clamatius on this. Nightfall is probably the most fun PvE campaign and allows you to get heroes, which makes soloing/playing with a few friends much more enjoyable.

I'd rank them in this order for a PvE player:

Nightfall
Eye of the North
Prophecies
Factions
"Never hit a man with glasses. Use a bat instead."

FYI, I do believe they are even on Steam, not too expensive, as I recall.
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

The GW2 social media machine has been pumping furiously lately. They must be getting closer to release.

After another long hiatus, the wife let me veg in front of the computer all memorial day weekend (where it rained continuously) here in the states, and I moved one of my characters along through nightfall, unlocking various heroes for her.

It's been 'just' long enough to forget a lot of the details, which makes playing through fun again, and I imagine I might take one of the nightfall characters through Prophecies since I don't remember squat about much of the missions there.

I am unable to forget any of Factions, so I imagine it will stay unplayable for me for quite some time.
